Treatment guide
PRP and BMAC Treatment in Chennai
Regenerative procedures using material prepared from a patient’s own blood or bone marrow for carefully selected joint or tendon problems.
Who may be considered
- Selected tendon injuries
- Some stages of joint degeneration
- People considering non-surgical options after a full assessment
Assessment comes first
The diagnosis, severity, previous treatment and quality of supporting evidence are reviewed. PRP or BMAC is not appropriate for every painful joint or tendon.
What happens
PRP is prepared from a blood sample. BMAC is prepared from bone-marrow aspirate. The selected material is injected into the target area using image guidance where appropriate.
What it cannot promise
Results vary and these treatments do not regrow a normal joint or guarantee avoidance of surgery. Evidence and suitability differ by condition; BMAC has more limited evidence for many uses.
Possible risks
- • Temporary pain or swelling
- • Bleeding or bruising
- • Infection
- • No meaningful improvement
Recovery
A short period of activity modification is usually followed by a planned return to movement and rehabilitation. Advice varies by the area treated.
Alternatives
- • Physiotherapy and strengthening
- • Medication or standard injections
- • Weight and activity management
- • Orthopaedic review or surgery where indicated
When to seek urgent help
Sudden weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain, severe pain after an injury, fever with worsening pain, or a rapidly changing condition needs urgent medical assessment. Trident Pain Clinics is not an emergency service.
